Today is the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. V-E Day was first observed on May 8th, 1945. It commemorates the surrender of Hitler's Nazi Germany to Allied forces, marking the official end of the military conflict in Europe. Formally entering World War II on September 9, 1939, Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King had envisioned a limited effort, initially dispatching only one army divisions to Europe.
