Gabrielle is expected to become a hurricane as it passes east of Bermuda, and could strengthen into a Category 2 storm with 100-mph sustained winds within the next 12 hours.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle is expected to strengthen into a hurricane over the weekend, but on its current track poses no threat to the U.S., the National Hurricane Center said Friday morning.

As of 4 a.m. CDT Saturday, the center of Tropical Storm Gabrielle was located about 685 miles southeast of Bermuda.
