Mozambique's government has banned protests following sustained post-election unrest that has left several people dead and dozens others injured. It follows last month's disputed presidential election, won by Frelimo, the party which has governed Mozambique since 1975.

Mozambique has witnessed protests since the country's disputed outcomes of the Oct. 9 elections which saw ruling party Frelimo's candidate Daniel Chapo declared the winner. At least 30 people are reported to have died during the post-election violence which is likely to be high on the agenda of next week's Southern African

“The violations of the right to life, including of a child, deliberate killings of unarmed protesters and the excessive use of force by the police deployed to disperse peaceful protests across Mozambique are very disturbing,” the Human Rights Council -appointed independent experts said.
