Dallas police are investigating after a Southwest Airlines flight was struck by a bullet Friday evening as it was preparing to depart from Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas, authorities said.

No one was hurt when Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was struck by gunfire while preparing to depart Dallas Love Field for Indianapolis.

Southwest is the main carrier at Love Field, and the airline’s headquarters is there, too. The airport, ringed by residential neighborhoods, is eight miles from downtown. Love Field was the region’s main airport until Dallas Fort Worth International Airport opened in 1974.

There were no reported injuries on the plane, which was struck on the "right side of the aircraft just under the flight deck while the Crew was preparing for departure," the airline said.

Gunshots were reported near Love Field Airport with a bullet striking a plane late Friday night, according to a Love Field spokesperson.
