Tropical Storm Gabrielle to become a Hurricane

At 5 p.m. Sunday, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that Tropical Storm Gabrielle is in the Atlantic Ocean, 390 miles southeast of Bermuda. With maximum sustained winds of 65 mph, the system is moving to the northwest at 12 mph.
A few storms this afternoon could be strong. The main threats include gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall. If you have any evening plans, a few showers or storms are possible with temperatures cooling into the upper 70s and lower 80s by 7 p.m.
When Hurricane Erin explosively intensified in the Atlantic, the alarming part wasn’t solely how dangerous it had become as a Category 5 monster: It was also just how typical such an ultra-rapid rate of intensification has become.
Not a single named storm has formed in the Atlantic Ocean in nearly three weeks, even though it’s the peak of hurricane season.
