After a period of high pressure and settled, if somewhat gloomy, conditions, the weather has taken a dramatic turn.
The Met Office said: "During Sunday, a new weather front will arrive from the west, cutting off the cold air and bringing a spell of rain, with conditions remaining changeable into next week." Forecasters say Saturday should bring a brief respite from the wet and windy weather that’s dominated much of the week.
In a "weekend outlook" for the Met Office, forecasters have said it will be "chilly" with "showers and frost".
Forecasters say "there is a greater than usual uncertainty surrounding the track and intensity of this low pressure system" - with Britons in coastal areas urged to consider preparing a flood plan.
