The retailer saw share gains in new shoppers across income levels mainly led by upper-income households, which make more than $100,000 in annual income, Walmart officials said during an earnings call on Tuesday. Walmart in a previous earnings call had also highlighted the rise in its higher income shoppers.

Walmart on Tuesday raised its annual sales and profit forecast for the third consecutive time, with people buying not just groceries but merchandise beyond essentials online and at stores, a sign that the retail giant may be gaining market share ahead of the holiday season.

Tariffs could raise prices on clothing, toys, furniture, appliances, footwear and travel goods, particularly items where China is a major supplier.

The Walmart executive’s comments hint at the trickle-down impact of tariffs, as companies pay the import tax upfront and often pass on the higher input costs associated with these fees to consumers.

Walmart is celebrating Black Friday and Cyber Monday this year with three separate sales events. While the first event has already begun, the company announced plans for the second Black Friday event and Cyber Monday on Monday.
