While Saturn has been visible in the night sky all of September, this weekend, the ringed planet will shine its brightest.
Saturn will appear at its brightest when it reaches opposition on the night of Sept. 21. The planet is famous for its dazzling ring system and is the second largest planet in our solar system.
Though the rings appear solid from afar, they’re actually a dynamic, rotating system of icy debris. One theory suggests they may be remnants of a moon or comet torn apart by Saturn's immense gravity.
