Calls to charge admission to enter the 861-year-old cathedral are ever-louder, and Culture minister Rachida Dati’s voice is amongst them. Speaking to Le Figaro newspaper in October, Dati suggested that a €5 fee to enter Notre-Dame would generate €75 million a year.

The bells of Notre Dame tolled in Paris on Friday for the first time since the 2019 fire that threatened to destroy the Parisian landmark. At the time of the fire, French President Emmanuel Macron vowed to rebuild the iconic, 861-year-old structure within five years.
