Here's the latest MLB playoff picture, including AL and NL wild card standings as the 2025 regular season wraps up

After four seasons ending in either abject failure or mediocrity, the Chicago Cubs are back in the playoffs. The Cubs recorded their 88th win Sept. 17, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates, 8-4, at PNC Park to become the second club from the National League Central to qualify for the playoffs.

The aforementioned Skubal, who left his previous start with side tightness, surrendered just one run across six innings. Guardians starter Tanner Bibee matched Skubal, however, with his own quality start. Cleveland's offense was able to plate two runs off Tigers reliever Troy Melton, both courtesy of Jose Ramirez 's 29th home run of the year.
