Scotland faces travel disruption as yellow weather warnings for wind, rain, snow and ice stay in place. While a previous Amber weather warning for snow has been downgraded, yellow weather warnings remain in place throughout the majority of the country, with wind warnings reaching as far as the Orkney and Shetland Isles.

Hundreds of schools remain closed in the north of Scotland for the fifth day as snow and icy conditions continue. Scotland has avoided Storm Goretti but down south a rare red weather warning was issued by the Met Office for “dangerous and stormy” winds in south-west England, with 99mph winds recorded on the Isles of Scilly.
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice will last until noon on Thursday, covering all areas apart from Shetland.
The Scottish Government’s Resilience Room (SGoRR) has met as the country faces a “multi-hazard” weekend of weather warnings. The group, attended by the First Minister and chaired by the Justice and Home Affairs Secretary, met on Saturday after the Met Office issued multiple weather warnings across Scotland for Sunday that extend into Monday.

Snow is expected to persist across northern parts of Scotland on Wednesday, and spreading down the east coast through the day. This will fall as rain or sleet over lower ground, with widespread icy conditions to continue where it falls on to already frozen ground.
A series of flood alerts and warnings have been issued across Scotland on Sunday as wet and windy weather makes its way across the country. The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has issued a flood warning for properties in Newton Stewart, Dumfries and Galloway and Churchill Barriers in Orkney .
