There are three teams legitimately in the race here. Our prediction is that the Blue Jays will hold on to win the AL East for the first time since 2015. But the Red Sox and Yankees will still reach the postseason as the No. 4 and 5 seeds, respectively.
New York's eight-game losing streak finally came to a halt on Sunday thanks to a walk-off homer from Pete Alonso. But the race for the final NL Wild Card spot is still very much alive: San Francisco is just a game back in the loss column of New York, while the Reds and Diamondbacks are both two games back in the loss column.
On Tuesday night, the Astros beat the Rangers ( HOU 6, TEX 5) while the Red Sox lost to the Athletics ( ATH 2, BOS 1 ), which moved Houston into the second wild card spot and bumped the Red Sox down into the third wild card. If the season ended today, which it very much does not, the AL postseason field would shake out like this:
On June 12, the Mets were an MLB-best 45-24 and 5.5 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. The division is long gone now—Philly has a 12.5-game lead, bolstered by last week's four-game sweep of the Mets.
The Philadelphia Phillies have clinched their second consecutive NL East title with a 6-5 victory in 10 innings over the Los Angeles Dodgers
