Ryan was asked a number of questions about his role on Tuesday, and also discussed the future of certain players, including Michael Penix Jr. The second-year Falcons quarterback showed signs of progress before partially tearing his ACL in Week 11. Penix should be back next healthy season, though.

The Atlanta Falcons have reportedly received a request from the Washington Commanders to speak with quarterbacks coach D.J. Williams for their open position.

The Falcons began their search after hiring former longtime quarterback Matt Ryan as president of football. Ryan is leading the searches for coach and general manager and is scheduled to have his first news conference in his newly created role on Tuesday. The new coach and GM will report to Ryan.

The Atlanta Falcons do not have a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft, and even if they did, the team doesn't currently have a general manager in place to make that selection. Team owner Arthur Blank dismissed both head coach Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot following the team's 8-9 finish.

The team posted a short clip to its X account on Monday which showed someone yanking Atlanta's current black jersey out of a locker, followed by an image of the current Falcons logo over the words "April 2026" − April typically being a month when clubs tend to unveil new unis.
