Gabrielle started as an African Easterly Wave (AEW) that grew from a convective disturbance moving over West Africa and became a tropical wave over the Eastern Atlantic Ocean south of Cabo Verdes. Gabrielle was Tropical Depression Seven earlier Wednesday morning and has now strengthened.
The already sprawling storm will grow larger as it hurls the ocean toward the East Coast and Bermuda, and it could have company this week.
