DETROIT – Jimmy Fallon is taking The Tonight Show on the road, and for the first time, it’s coming to Detroit. The late-night host sat down with me ahead of Sunday’s taping at the Detroit Opera House, sharing his excitement about the city, its food, and of course, the Detroit Lions.
The late night talk show is heading to Motor City for one night only — and planning a slate of hometown-hero guests.
Just as the crowd thought it was over, Bananas founder Jesse Cole, dressed in his unmistakable yellow suit and bowler hat, appeared on stage. With a flourish, he presented Fallon with an official “Honorary Banana” contract, assigning him the jersey number 19.

While Colbert and Kimmel certainly had their detractors on both sides of the aisle, Fallon is arguably the most widely-disliked late night host due to his seeming lack of authenticity (fake laughter), celebrity-centric gimmicks and games, and the general toothlessness of his comedy.
