Britain, Australia, Canada, and Portugal today recognised a Palestinian state after nearly two years of war in Gaza. France, Belgium and other countries are poised to follow suit at the United Nations General Assembly.

About 10 countries including Australia, Belgium, Britain and Canada are expected to formally recognise an independent Palestinian state on Monday at a summit before the annual leaders' gathering at the U.

On Sunday, Britain, Canada and Australia said they recognized Palestine as a state. The Trump administration will find itself at odds with much of the rest of the world over Palestinian statehood.
