People held at the brand new Florida immigration detention center that officials have dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz” say worms turn up in the food, toilets don’t flush and floors flood with fecal waste.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) has invited members of Congress and state legislators to a scheduled 90-minute tour of the facility.

The mayor's request comes as state and federal lawmakers prepare to tour the remote facility this weekend, amid growing scrutiny over its conditions.

The detention center built by the state of Florida to house undocumented immigrants in the Big Cypress wilderness known as “Alligator Alcatraz” has sparked all sorts of reactions.
