The Asian Football Confederation has joined the North, Central America and Caribbean football association and UEFA in opposition to FIFA president Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell stakes in its competitions to private investors.

Several nations have already come forward to withdraw their support in the FIFA president.

Uefa would reportedly not have been satisfied “only” with the failure of FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), which Infantino had been trying to push forward and which would have guaranteed him a hefty salary.

European football’s governing body UEFA threatened to boycott FIFA events and accused the organization of putting the sport’s “soul” up for sale over the proposal.

After an onslaught of opposition, Infantino announced that FIFA was scrapping a heavily scrutinized plan to sell minority stakes in the World Cup and other tournaments to private investors.
