Pope Leo XIV condemned Israel's attack on Gaza's Catholic church, killing three, and urged adherence to humanitarian law, denouncing collective punishment and forced displacement.

Pope Leo XIV spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after a tank hit the only Catholic church in Gaza, killing three people.

"I again call for an immediate end to the barbarity of the war and for a peaceful resolution of the conflict," Pope Leo said.

On July 17, the Israeli military accidentally bombed the only Catholic parish in Gaza. The strike killed three and injured nine, including the parish priest Father Gabriel Romanelli.
